Bay Ridge, Brooklyn - History & Background

Bay Ridge initially consisted of two sister villages. Yellow hook to the

north names for the color of the soil, and Ft. Hamilton to the south, named for the military installation at its center. In the 19th century, The Ridge served as a resort destination to lodge visitors to the army base. The former began to develop after 1850, when a group of artist moved to the area and founded a colony called Ovington Village. Prior to that, it was mostly farmlands.

Yellow Hook and Ft. Hamilton were struck repeatedly by yellow fever in the 19 century. By 1853, village leaders met and decided to change the communities name to avoid association with the color, choosing "Bay Ridge "The areas most prominent features: the Highridge offered views of the New York bay. It's natural beauty attracted not only artists but also the wealthy who built mansions along Shore Road, overlooking the water, some of which still stands and are worth millions.

Bay Ridge is a large middle-class neighborhood. With a strong family presence, it is not uncommon to see third of fourth generation families living in the region. Until the early 1990s Bay Ridge was a primarily Irish, Italian, and Norwegian.

An annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, also known as the Syttende Mai Parade.  It features hundreds of people in Folk Dress parade down third Avenue. It ends in Leif Ericsson Park.

"The Ridge" has many International Restaurants and Bars, especially along third and fifth Avenues. Those are its two main commercial strips where you find Women's Apparel Stores, Consignment Shops, Arts & Crafts, Salon & Spa, Food Markets & so much more. There are too many to list, so grab your things and head to Bay Ridge. You will always find something to do.

History of Owls Head Park (Also Known for "Bliss Park.")

Owls Head Park was the previous estate of the "Bliss" family. Before this, the property was owned by Henry C. Murphy, a United States senator for whom the nearby Senator Street is named. It is now a 27 acre Walking Park that has a State-of-the-Art Skate Park, Dog run, Children's playgrounds, and Basketball courts; ThisPark is the first in Brooklyn to build the first Concrete Skate Park.

"Don't Ever Give up on Yourself - Don't ever lose hope."

Our Soon to be Health Destination Capital in the Nation.

Why the Mayo Clinic?

My Story

In 2012, I became very ill. I sought out the very best Doctors in NYC - Mostly Columbia/ Cornell Grads, John Hopkins, and New York Presbyterian Physicians. You know, I was in search for the very best. I truly wanted & desperately needed Stellar Health Care, so I went in search to do so.

At that time, They [Physicians] confirmed that I do have Celiacs Disease as well as a very Cunning Yeast Gut Overgrowth Disease called Candida. I made every effort to cut Gluten out of my life, and followed an intense strict Paleo diet, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to stop other Auto Immunes that come along with these horrible non-malignent illnesses.

After a two year long battle with my health in New York with no answers as to why I didn't greatly improve, I decided to go to the Famously known World Renowned Clinic in the Nation - I wanted to live, and all I knew was that there was a place up in the Midwest who had a reputation to help people who Doctor's say couldn't be helped. Their technology was pressumably better and it seemed to have a huge "Notoriety" for being Superior, so I made the call, and I was on my way.

I was under the assumption that I would get there, be scanned by a State-of-the-Art Futuristic Machinery, and "Wala!" I would get diagnosed, start treatment, and be cured "Finally, some relief". Contratry to my beliefs, that was so not the case. lol lol - To say the least, It was a wake up call.

When I got there, I had found a place so decadent and welcoming, something so elusive that I could never have possibly imagined. I found the Health Capital of the Nation. I found, "The Mayo Clinic." I stood @ its Entrance, and so overwhelmingly I found Hope.

The Mayo Clinic changed my life for the better. - My premature vision of it was clearly underestimated. There was not a Futurist Innovative Machine that would scan me. It was better. There were Doctors.

Learn more about the Mayo Clinic

To give you a little background, The Mayo Clinic is a Nonprofit Medical Practice & Research Group originally based in Rochester Minnesota.  Dr. William Worrall settled his family there with a Medical Practice that envolved into what everyone today calls "Your Health Destination Place." It was ranked the #1 Clinic in the Country in 2014, and its success is merely based on the mindset that "the needs of the patient come first." Each year, there are approximately One Million Patients from all across the nation who get treated there, and more than 150 Countries are seen at one of their facilities. They expanded their Rochester, MI Facility in 1986, and now have 2 other locations in Jacksonville, Florida, and Phoenix, Arizona.

Because Mayo Physicians are paid a fixed salary that is not linked to Patient Volume, or income from fee-for-service payments, the practice is sought to decrease the monetary motivation to see patients in large numbers and increase the incentive to spend more time with these individuals. "Shouldn't all health care be based on their Model?" Ideally, Yes, but it's just not. Mayo plays a huge role in where they reverse engineer medical procedures that were initially done by other physicians to their "Now" Patient.

It is my Dream to have a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of my Clothing Apparel Line distributed to the Mayo Clinic, and I do hope that this innitiave can help them to continue the amazing work they do for so many. "I truly do."

Mayo Clinic Founders

Although there are many founders as well as many people who where Front & Center along the way, the Mayo Brothers (William James Mayo 1861-1939 & Charles Horace Mayo 1865-1939) did take over their father's business that eventually evolved into this Health Haven in Rochester, Minnesota, called the "Mayo Clinic." It's decadence is elusive. It's Art and Architecture will amaze you, but the most important Beauty of this place is the people, the doctors, their staff, and the awareness that you're there along with others who are in desperate need of help with the most important thing in their lives, their health.

Along with their Clinic, the Mayo Research Facility contributes to the understanding of disease processes, best clinical practices, and translation of findings from the laboratory to the clinical practice. Nearly 400 doctoral level physicians and research scientists are employed, with an additional 2800 Allied Health Personnel and students with appointments and research.  In 2010, more than 2300 research protocols were reviewed by the Mayo Clinic institutional review board and 8000 ongoing human research studies. These research initiatives lead to more than 5000 research publications and review articles in Peer-Reviewed Journals.

As one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For" published by Fortune Magazine eight years in a row, The Mayo Clinic is where "real" [ethical} physicians want to be, and a place where the ill should be. Help us help them to continue to do such innovated and ethical work, and aid them in their efforts to be able to continue the core values as it was based on by William Worrall Mayo, "the needs of the patient come first."
